Police investigators are seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to track down a woman who allegedly found a Westchester resident's wallet and promptly attempted to go on a spending spree using the stolen credit cards.
Investigators received a report on Friday, March 29, from a local resident who stated that he believed he dropped his brown wallet in front of his Garth Road apartment in Scarsdale at approximately 2:15 p.m. The wallet contained a driver’s license, a Chase debit card, Capital One credit card and a Chase Hyatt Visa card.
According to police, at approximately 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, the complainant received an email from Chase Bank’s fraud department that stated someone purchased $18.12 from the CVS store on Popham Road and attempted to purchase two $500 gift cards, which was declined.
Police said that the man received several more notifications stating that the other cards were attempted to use to purchase gas at the Shell Station on Scarsdale Avenue, where he was charged $38.
Investigators were able to ascertain surveillance video from CVS, and the suspect was described as an African-American woman who was approximately 30 years old. She was approximately 5-foot-7 with short black hair and was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, gray workout pants and white sneakers when she was spotted exiting a white SUV. No surveillance footage was taken at the Shell station.
The credit cards have since been canceled and police are continuing the investigation into the missing wallet and stolen credit cards. Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious has been asked to contact investigators at the Scarsdale Police Department by calling (914) 722-7877.
